VILNIUS, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's Interior Ministry has approved the allocation of 12 million euros (13.08 million U.S. dollars) to upgrade shelter infrastructure in 51 municipalities, the government announced on Thursday.
The investment will support improvements to 350 bomb shelters across the country over an 18-month period, Baltic News Service reported, citing Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovic.
According to the Interior Ministry, Lithuania has more than 6,400 shelters, providing space for approximately 1.5 million people, or 54 percent of the population. The ministry aims to increase shelter capacity to at least 60 percent of the city population. (1 euro = 1.09 U.S. dollar) Enditem
