5.0-magnitude quake hits central Iran near key nuclear facility

TEHRAN, March 21 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 on Friday jolted around the cities of Natanz and Badrud in central Iran's Isfahan province, where the country's key nuclear facility is located, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The quake hit at 10:23 a.m. local time (0653 GMT) at a depth of 10 km, following which seven aftershocks were recorded, the largest of which at 1:03 p.m. local time with a magnitude of 4.5, according to IRNA.

Rescue and assessment teams have been sent to the epicenter of the earthquake, which is located 4 km from Natanz and 18 km from Badrud, it reported.

Mansour Shishehforoush, director general of Isfahan's crisis management department, told IRNA, "So far, there have been no casualties except for the broken glass of buildings in these areas."
