ULAN BATOR, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia will implement the "Blue Gold" national program to protect water resources, avoid water shortages and adapt to global climate change, President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh said here on Friday.
"Most mountain glaciers in the world are melting faster due to the impacts of climate change, which negatively affects various areas of human life," Khurelsukh said at the opening ceremony of the second national "Blue Gold" forum held here, under the theme "Let's Protect Our Glaciers and Ice Formations" on the occasion of World Water Day 2025.
It is necessary to protect permafrost ecosystems, collect glacial meltwater from ice, estimate the number and location of potential future lakes in Mongolia, introduce technologies to prevent the melting of glaciers, reduce water pollution, and introduce a wastewater treatment and reuse system, according to the president.
