ISTANBUL, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Gunmen opened fire on the Iraqi Consulate General in Istanbul Friday night, Turkish media reported, with no casualties recorded.

According to the Demiroren news agency, two assailants on a motorcycle fired multiple rounds at the consulate building in the Sisli district on the European side of the city.

The attackers used a long-barreled firearm, striking the building nine times before fleeing, the report said.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear.

In a short statement, the Iraqi foreign ministry confirmed the shooting in Istanbul, saying the gunmen used a Kalashnikov rifle to conduct the attack. Enditem
