MONTEVIDEO, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo's Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Nicolas de la Cruz have been ruled out of Uruguay World Cup qualifier against Bolivia due to injury, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) said on Saturday.
De Arrascaeta limped off in the 41st minute of Uruguay's 1-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Argentina in Montevideo on Friday with a hamstring strain.
He was replaced by De La Cruz, who finished the match despite suffering from an undisclosed injury.
Both players were released from Uruguay's squad and returned to Rio de Janeiro to continue their recovery under the guidance of Flamengo's medical staff, the AUF said. The entity did not immediately name replacements for the pair.
Uruguay is currently fourth in the 10-team South American zone qualifying group with 20 points from 13 outings, two points behind leader Ecuador.
The Celeste will meet Bolivia in El Alto, situated at more than 4,000m above sea level, on Tuesday. Enditem
