LOS ANGELES, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Disney's musical fantasy film "Snow White" dominated the North American box office with an estimated three-day cume of 43 million U.S. dollars on its opening weekend, figures from the measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.
Based on the 1812 fairy tale "Snow White" by the Brothers Grimm, the film is a live-action reimagining of Walt Disney's 1937 film "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
Directed by Marc Webb, the 250 million-dollar production stars Rachel Zegler in the titular role and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
Overseas, the film earned 44.3 million dollars this weekend for a global cume of 87.3 million dollars.
The film has earned an approval rating of 44 percent based on 181 reviews to date on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, and a "B+" on an "A+" to "F" scale from audiences polled by the market research firm CinemaScore.
In a distant second place, Focus Features' spy drama "Black Bag" took in 4.4 million dollars on its second weekend. The film has grossed 14.88 million dollars in North America through Sunday.
