SOFIA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev and his visiting Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanar here on Monday said Europe had to strengthen capabilities to defend itself.
Georgiev said that Bulgaria welcomed positively the recent initiatives of the European Commission to increase the European Union's own capacity in the security and defense sectors.
The overall view, the general common philosophy that Europe must be able to guarantee its security and defense on its own, that it must be an equal partner, and that reciprocity must also be achieved in relations with the United States so that the European strength to be noted, was also important, Georgiev said.
"Europe has the resources, capabilities and technology to be equivalently strong," he added.
The principles that the European Union professed in this direction were very clear, but for the European bid to be clear and strong enough, "we need to invest in it," Georgiev said. Enditem
