MIAMI, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Zheng Qinwen led the way for China at the Miami Open on Monday, reaching the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 event with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory over America's Ashlyn Krueger.

Ninth-seed Zheng hit five aces and won 81 percent of her first-serve points as she took the match in an hour and 29 minutes.

Krueger struggled for rhythm on serve, committing four double faults, while winning only 27 percent of total points on return.

Zheng's quarterfinal opponent will be top seed and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who advanced by beating defending champion Danielle Collins 6-4, 6-4 in their round-of-16 duel.

Zheng, the reigning Olympic women's singles champion, is aiming for her sixth career title.

Meanwhile, Wang Xinyu and Zheng Saisai reached the last eight of the women's doubles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Americans Danielle Collins and Desirae Krawczyk.

The Chinese pair were particularly impressive when returning serve, converting five of 10 break points to take the match in an hour and 18 minutes.

Wang and Zheng will meet China's Jiang Xinyu and Chinese Taipei's Wu Fang-Hsien in the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere in the women's doubles, China's Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan bowed out of the tournament, falling 6-1, 6-2 to Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider in the round of 16.

Xu and Yang served four double faults and managed to win only 45 percent of points on their first serve as the Russian pair prevailed in 50 minutes. Enditem
