YANGON, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar marked World Tuberculosis Day at the Ministry of Health in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday, state-run daily Myanma Alinn reported on Tuesday.

Union Minister for Health Thet Khaing Win, along with officials, health staff and other relevant organizations attended the event.

During the event, Union Minister for Health Thet Khaing Win said that tuberculosis (TB) eradication initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with relevant organizations, local and international partners, aiming to reduce the TB cases and death rates to zero by 2050.

He noted that TB medicines and medical supplies are funded by the national budget, with 15.5 billion kyats (about 7.38 million U.S. dollars) allocated for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

He urged that any discovered TB cases should be reported to the Ministry of Health and called for increased involvement from private clinics and hospitals in TB control efforts.

Modern laboratory equipment is used in TB screenings for children, and school-based TB screening initiatives are being carried out to prevent the disease, the report said.

Additionally, the National Tuberculosis Program plans to conduct TB screenings using machines with advanced technology, it added. Enditem
