Laos records 56 mln USD in trade deficit in January

VIENTIANE, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Laos recorded a trade deficit of 56 million U.S. dollars in January, according to the latest figures from the Lao Trade Portal website.

The total value of trade in January reached over 1.3 billion dollars, with exports accounting for 650 million dollars and imports totaling 706 million dollars, said a report issued on Tuesday from the website.

Laos' main export products included electrical appliances, mixed gold and gold bars, cassava, potassium salt, papers, rubber, gold ore, cassava starch, wood pulp and paper scraps, clothing.

The country's main imports included diesel, land vehicles, mechanical equipment, chemical products, fertilizers, electrical appliances, steel and magnetic steel, sugar, clothing, and farm tractors.

Thailand, China and Vietnam are among the leading export destinations for Lao products. Meanwhile, major import sources to Laos included Thailand, China and Vietnam, according to the report. Enditem
