SOFIA, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The first leg of this year's FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series will be held next week in the Arena 8888 Sofia Hall, officials said here on Tuesday.

As many as 87 individual gymnasts from 43 countries and regions, as well as 14 groups, will compete in the three-day event, which takes place on April 4, the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (BRGF) said in a press release.

Meanwhile, the International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament Sofia Cup will be held from March 27 to March 30 also in Bulgaria's capital city with the participation of representatives of 24 countries and regions, the BRGF said.

"There is a lot of interest in both competitions this year, perhaps because they are at the beginning of the season," said BRGF vice president Neviana Vladinova.

This year's Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup series consists of four legs. Azerbaijan's capital Baku, Tashkent in Uzbekistan, and Italy's Milan will host the other three. Enditem
