RAMALLAH, March 25 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian man was shot dead early Tuesday when Israeli forces fired live ammunition at a shop in Qalqilya, a city in the northern West Bank, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
Israeli special forces, backed by military reinforcements, entered the city from its eastern and northern approaches and surrounded a shop in the western district, WAFA said.
Troops opened heavy gunfire at the shop, followed by shelling, until the man, a former prisoner, was killed and his body seized, it added.
Israel Police said in a statement that Israeli security forces, acting on intelligence, targeted "a militant in Qalqilya who was planning an attack on Israeli civilians."
Separately, WAFA reported that Israeli forces continued operations in the West Bank city of Jenin and its adjacent refugee camp for a 64th consecutive day, demolishing shops and conducting widespread arrests. Enditem
