JERUSALEM -- Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tuesday he has approved operational plans for "continuing" the offensive in the Gaza Strip.
During a visit to the Gaza Division, headquartered at Re'im Camp near the strip, Katz said if Hamas does not release the remaining hostages, "it will pay increasingly heavy prices in territorial losses and the targeting of militants and terror infrastructure, until its complete defeat." DAMASCUS -- Six civilians were killed and several others injured after Israeli forces shelled the town of Koayiah in the southern Syrian province of Daraa on Tuesday, according to Syria's foreign affairs authorities.

ANKARA -- Turkish security forces have arrested 1,418 suspects since the start of protests last week against the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Tuesday.
