HOUSTON -- Patrick Crusius, the shooter who killed 23 people in 2019 at a Walmart in El Paso, U.S. state of Texas, was offered a plea deal to avoid the death penalty, El Paso District Attorney James Montoya said at a press conference on Tuesday.
The District Attorney office extended an offer to Crusius to plea guilty to capital murder and a sentence of life in prison without parole in exchange for the office not seeking the death penalty. (US-Walmart-Shooting-Plea Deal)

LUSAKA -- The European Union (EU) has allocated 150,000 euros to help Zambia's response to the cholera outbreak, a press statement released on Tuesday said.
The funding will bolster the efforts of the Zambia Red Cross Society in providing much-needed relief, including clean water, healthcare, sanitation and hygiene, as well as help people mitigate transmission risk through community engagement. (Zambia-EU)

UNITED NATIONS -- Continuing attacks on civilians in Sudan, including a deadly air strike on a North Darfur market, has "gravely alarmed" the United Nations, a UN spokesman said on Tuesday.
"Last night (Monday) in North Darfur, dozens of casualties were reported when an air strike hit a market located about 40 km northwest of El Fasher," said Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. "The UN is also deeply concerned about escalating attacks on populated areas in Khartoum." (UN-Sudan)

BRATISLAVA -- The Slovak government declared a state of emergency on Tuesday following the confirmation of additional cases of foot-and-mouth disease -- the first such outbreak in the country in 50 years.
The latest case was detected on a farm in the Dunajska Streda district, near previously affected areas. The government approved a proposal by Agriculture Minister Richard Takac to impose a state of emergency across the entire country, along with the associated measures and restrictions.
