CHARIKAR, Afghanistan, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have broken up a gang of robbers and killed four members of the band in eastern Afghanistan's Parwan province, a local security official said Wednesday.

The suspected armed robbers were killed on Tuesday night in a shootout with the security forces after they opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire in Kamangar region, Sayedkhail district of the province, said Fazal Rahim Maskenyar, the provincial police spokesman.

According to Maskenyar, security personnel have recovered stolen property, a communication device, and two arms from the deceased robbers.

A security officer sustained injuries in the fire exchange and is currently receiving medical care at a health center, he said.

As part of its efforts to ensure peace, security, law, and order, the Afghan interim government has vowed a rigorous crackdown on criminal elements, robbers, irresponsible armed groups, and drug traffickers in the war-torn country. Enditem
