Algeria thrash Mozambique to claim group lead in World Cup qualifiers

ALGIERS, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Algeria delivered a dominant performance against Mozambique on Tuesday night, securing a 5-1 victory in their sixth-round match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers.

At a packed Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium, Mohamed Amoura opened the scoring for Algeria in the eighth minute before defender Aissa Mandi doubled the lead in the 23rd. Amoura struck again in the 29th minute.

Mozambique's Geny Catamo scored in the 39th minute, but Algeria restored their three-goal margin when substitute Jaouen Hadjam found the net in the 65th minute. Amoura completed his hat trick in the 80th minute to seal the 5-1 victory.

With this win, Algeria maintains top position in Group G with 15 points, while Mozambique remains second with 12 points. Enditem
