KATHMANDU, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Nepali government has asked social media platforms to get registered or face the consequence of being banned in the country, an official said on Wednesday.

Companies, institutions or persons who are operating or plan to operate social media platforms in Nepal have been asked to get enlisted with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology within 30 days.

"Platforms that fail to get enlisted within the specified time could be banned from operating," Mamata Bastola, information officer at the ministry, told Xinhua.

In addition, platforms must establish a point of contact, name a resident grievance handling officer and an officer for monitoring compliance, said Bastola.

Viber, TikTok and Weetok have been registered with the Nepali ministry. Enditem
