JERUSALEM, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said on Wednesday that its air defense systems intercepted a projectile fired from the Gaza Strip toward an air force base in southern Israel.
"A short while ago, an interceptor was launched toward a projectile that crossed from the northern Gaza Strip into southern Israel," the military said, adding that the outcome of the interception was still under review.
The projectile triggered sirens at Hatzerim, an air force base in the Negev Desert.
According to earlier military figures, since Israel resumed its air and ground assault on Gaza, aerial defense systems have intercepted five rockets from the Gaza Strip.
Gaza's health authorities say that at least 830 Palestinians have been killed and 1,787 injured since March 18, when Israel renewed its intensive military operations in the enclave. No Israeli casualties have been reported. Enditem
