JAKARTA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The local anti-narcotics agency in Bali, Indonesia, announced on Thursday the arrest of a British national and an Argentinian national, naming them as suspects in an illicit drug case.

Authorities apprehended the British citizen, identified by his initials EJS, following the arrest of Argentinian national EG (initials) at Bali's airport on Tuesday. The 45-year-old Argentinian woman was caught smuggling 323.76 grams of cocaine.

Bali's Anti-Narcotics Agency Chief Rudy Ahmad Sudrajat told local media that the suspect had flown from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to Bali before being arrested for drug smuggling.

"Customs officers intercepted the suspect after she exhibited suspicious behavior shortly after arrival," Sudrajat explained. Subsequent investigations led to EJS's arrest in Badung resort area, where he is suspected of being the intended recipient of the cocaine.

Sudrajat said that EG was promised 3,000 U.S. dollars for smuggling the cocaine from Mexico to Bali. Authorities believe the two were part of an international drug network operating between Mexico and Bali, with plans to distribute the cocaine across the island.

"Hopefully, this case breakthrough will help us dismantle the cocaine network in Bali and disrupt their operations here," he said. Enditem
