BEIRUT, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Thursday afternoon, targeting a car in southern Lebanon, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The NNA reported that the airstrike hit a vehicle on the Baraashit-Beit Yahoun road in the central border area of southern Lebanon. The Public Health Emergency Operations Center, part of the Ministry of Public Health, confirmed that two citizens were killed in the attack on the village of Baraashit.

Earlier reports from the center indicated that a separate incident occurred in the village of Houla, located in the eastern border region, where an Israeli drone dropped a bomb, injuring one civilian.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Israel's repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement, warning that such actions undermine stability and risk further escalation. In an interview with France 24, Aoun stressed Lebanon's commitment to the agreement, while accusing Israel of breaching it by maintaining a presence at five disputed border points and failing to release detainees.

Since Nov. 27, 2024, a U.S.- and French-brokered ceasefire has been in effect, halting over a year of hostilities following the Gaza war.

However, despite this agreement, Israel continues to conduct occasional strikes in Lebanon, claiming they target Hezbollah "threats." Additionally, Israel has maintained a military presence at five key locations along the Lebanese border after missing the Feb. 18 deadline for full withdrawal. Enditem
