NAIROBI, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Kenya goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been suspended from football for 90 days over alleged match-fixing claims, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) said Friday.

The FKF said that Matasi, 36, was suspended following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation.

"The decision, made in accordance with Section VII (2) of the FKF anti-match manipulation regulations (2016), has been formally communicated to Kakamega Homeboyz FC and the player," FKF said in a statement issued in Nairobi.

Matasi, who has played for Kenya's national team since 2017 and earned 35 caps for the Harambee Stars, drew attention Thursday after two videos surfaced online.

The viral clips, which shocked the nation, allegedly show Matasi discussing domestic league match-fixing during his tenure with Kenya Police FC, a club he left in January.

He is further suspected of involvement in rigging international matches, including a 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon where Kenya lost 4-1 last year.

The FKF, in collaboration with world soccer governing body FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and other authorities, has launched an official investigation.

Matasi denied the allegations in social media posts, calling the videos "AI generated videos out to tarnish my character" and threatening legal action.

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula told local media that the goalkeeper denied being the person filmed in a vehicle allegedly discussing Kenyan Premier League match-fixing.

Matasi previously played for four local clubs before joining Ethiopian Premier League side Saint George on a three-year deal in October 2018.

He later returned to Kenya, featuring for Tusker and Kenya Police FC, helping the latter win last season's domestic cup. Enditem
