CARACAS, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro discussed with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk the need to guarantee the rights of Venezuelan migrants.

According to a statement released Friday by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil, Maduro spoke with Guterres by phone on Wednesday and held a conversation with Turk on Friday.

"During both discussions, President Maduro underscored the need for the UN to take a firm stance in ensuring the protection of Venezuelan migrants' rights and upholding international law," the statement said.

The UN officials reaffirmed their commitment to activating all available mechanisms to swiftly restore the rights of Venezuelan migrants, which have been "flagrantly violated," the statement added.

Maduro also reiterated his government's determination to facilitate the repatriation of Venezuelan nationals. Enditem
