YANGON -- A total of 1,644 people died, 3,408 were injured, and 139 remained missing in a powerful earthquake in Myanmar, according to the Information Team of the State Administration Council on Saturday night.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit the southeast Asian country on Friday, with Mandalay, Bago, Magway, the northeastern Shan state, Sagaing, and Nay Pyi Taw among the hardest-hit regions. (Myanmar-Quake-Casualties)

YANGON -- A Chinese rescue team arrived at Yangon International Airport in Myanmar on Saturday afternoon to assist in disaster relief efforts following a devastating earthquake.

NEW DELHI -- At least 16 Naxals were killed and two policemen wounded Saturday in a fierce gunfight in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The gunfights between Naxals and joint contingents of police and paramilitary forces broke out at Keralapal area of Sukma district, about 425 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. (India- Naxals-Gunfight)
