VIENTIANE, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone extended condolences to Myanmar's State Administration Council Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Saturday following a massive earthquake on Friday.
In a condolence message, Sonexay said he was deeply saddened to hear about the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and widespread property damage.
On behalf of the Lao government and people, Sonexay expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Myanmar, particularly to the families of the victims of this tragedy.
"I am confident that with your leadership and the government's efforts, the people of Myanmar will overcome these challenges and restore the affected areas to normalcy as quickly as possible," said Sonexay.
Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane also extended condolences to Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe over the earthquake.
A total of 1,700 people died, 3,400 were injured and 300 remained missing in the earthquake in Myanmar, the country's State Administration Council said on Sunday. Enditem
