KABUL, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Like other Islamic countries in the world, the people of Afghanistan offered prayers for Eid al-Fitr on Sunday amid tight security and a peaceful environment to mark the end of Muslims' fasting holy month Ramadan.
Praying for lasting peace and sustainable development, the prayer leaders in their sermons called upon Afghans to stay united and work for the development and reconstruction of their war-battered country.
Police and security personnel have been deployed around the mosques and sensitive areas to ensure security during Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
In Afghanistan, the Eid al-Fitr has been announced as a three-day festival during which people visit relatives and friends to foster friendship and brotherhood, while families make peace and reconciliation if they have enmity with anyone.
The state-run and private media outlets would air entertainment programs sans music to keep the audience happy during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. Enditem
