COLOMBO, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The Maldivian government has commenced a sports infrastructure initiative, signing contracts with three government-owned companies to launch 77 projects across the country, official media reported on Sunday.
The total cost of the projects is around 13.3 million U.S. dollars, which includes the construction of 34 outdoor gyms, 28 fitness and recreation centers, five futsal courts, seven soccer fields, and two volleyball courts, PSM News said.
Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu said they plan to complete the 77 projects within two years.
This initiative is part of President Mohamed Muizzu's pledge to develop sports infrastructure, encourage healthy lifestyles, and increase the number of national-level athletes within the next two years, PSM said. Enditem
