SANAA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed and five others wounded in fresh U.S. airstrikes on Yemen's capital Sanaa on Sunday evening, Houthi-run health authorities said in a statement.

Four U.S. airstrikes targeted the Jadir area north of Sanaa, and another 13 struck locations in the areas of Al Malikah and Sarif in the northeastern part of the capital, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported. No further details were provided by the Houthi channel regarding casualties or damage.

The latest attacks added to the 16 others carried out earlier on Sunday in northern Yemen, including Mount Nabi Shu'ayb in Bani Matar District west of Sanaa and sites in Saada province, a stronghold of the Houthis.

There were no comments from the U.S. military.

The evening strikes came as the Yemen-based militant group claimed earlier in the day responsibility for three attacks on the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Red Sea and another strike on the Ben Gurion airport in central Israel, which was reportedly intercepted by Israeli defense systems.

The Houthis have controlled much of northern Yemen, including Sanaa, since the onset of its fight against the internationally-recognized government in 2014.

Tensions between the Houthis and the U.S. military have escalated since Washington launched fresh airstrikes on Yemen on March 15. The strikes followed Houthi threats to resume attacks on Israeli targets unless humanitarian aid is allowed into the Gaza Strip and the siege on the enclave is lifted.
