MANDALAY, Myanmar, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese rescuers pulled out three people in the quake-hit Myanmar city of Mandalay within two hours on Monday.
Yue Xin, head of the first detachment of the China Search and Rescue Team, told Xinhua at the rescue scene about the swift rescue process.
"We started at 11 p.m. last night and worked until the sun rose this morning. It doesn't matter how long we work. The most important thing is that we can bring hope to the local people," Yue said.
The Chinese rescuer said that his team was assigned to carry out rescue work at the Sky Villa quake scene based on the assessment of the site.
"The environment is beyond imagination. The collapse is serious," said Yue, noting that the team has encountered setbacks in locating and searching, including aftershocks.
"There were two or three aftershocks during the search," he said, adding that, however, all the team members remained at the site trying to locate the trapped people.
Yue said the survivors at the site were mainly on the fifth or sixth floor of the building, as the lower level collapsed in a "pancake style," which hampered the rescue efforts.
The rescuers thus managed to use breaking technologies, targeted video surveillance, and manual tapping and questioning skills in the process, which ended up in the breaking-open of a "green channel," Yue told Xinhua.
"The whole process is a great challenge to the willpower and physical strength of our team members," said Yue.
He, surrounded by locals at the scene, said, "As a Chinese rescue team, we are so keen to give the people here good news, an inspiring one, as soon as possible."
"Our team members are working tirelessly to search and rescue," said Yue.
A Chinese civilian rescue team of RAMUNION RESCUE has also been participating in the rescue works in Mandalay, according to Yue.
