YANGON, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Humanitarian aid agencies based in Myanmar have been in relief efforts since a 7.9-magnitude earthquake rattled the country on Friday, an official told Xinhua on Monday.

The Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) have launched a humanitarian response, Marie Manrique, program coordinator of the Myanmar delegation of MRCS, told Xinhua.

MRCS has been providing first aid and pre-hospital care to injured individuals and deploying items including blankets, tarpaulins and hygiene kits, she said.

"I am really happy to see international rescue teams arriving in Myanmar to help the victims of the earthquake, with China conducting an immediate response," she noted. Enditem
