MANILA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines has been expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with 912 publicly accessible charging stations operational nationwide as of March 31, primarily concentrated in the capital, the Philippines' Department of Energy (DOE) said Tuesday.

To further accelerate EV adoption, the DOE said it is introducing new regulatory initiatives and public consultations to ensure a safe, efficient, and sustainable charging network.

The DOE will publish the implementing guidelines on the obligations of electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) providers in April and conduct public consultations this second quarter on key initiatives.

Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick Aquino said the Philippines' goal is to deploy over 7,000 EV charging stations by 2028.

"By combining infrastructure development with public engagement, we can accelerate the transition to EVs and build a cleaner, more sustainable transportation sector," he said. Enditem
