JERUSALEM/GAZA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli military said Tuesday it intercepted a rocket launched from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli territory.
"One projectile launched from northern Gaza was intercepted by the air force," the military said in a statement.
Air raid sirens were activated in the southern town of Sderot and the communities of Ibim and Or HaNer.
Meanwhile, Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its "missile force bombarded Sderot and Israeli settlements near Gaza with a barrage of rockets."
This was the latest rocket attack by Gaza militants since Israel ended a two-month ceasefire on March 18 and resumed deadly air and ground assaults on the Palestinian enclave.
The renewed Israeli attacks have so far killed 1,042 Palestinians and injured 2,542 others, Gaza health authorities said Tuesday, adding the death toll in the enclave since the war began in October 2023 has risen to 50,399, with 114,583 injured. Enditem
