PHNOM PENH, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Luxembourg on Tuesday signed up to provide 2 million euros (about 2.16 million U.S. dollars) to support a mine clearance project in Cambodia.

The deal was inked in Phnom Penh in the presence of visiting Crown Prince Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie of Luxembourg and Ly Thuch, a senior minister and first vice president of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA).

Speaking at the ceremony, Thuch said Luxembourg's grant aid was given to the Clearing for Results Project, jointly managed by the CMAA and the United Nations Development Program.

Cambodia is one of the countries worst affected by landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERWs). An estimated 4 million to 6 million landmines and other munitions had been left over from three decades of war and internal conflicts that ended in 1998.

The CMAA's report showed that from 1979 to 2024, landmine and ERW explosions had claimed 19,834 lives and maimed 45,252 others in Cambodia. Enditem
