VIENTIANE, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines officials, along with other relevant authorities, reviewed the 2024 achievements in the energy and mineral sectors and discussed future plans, emphasizing their role in supporting the nation's socio-economic development.
The meeting on Monday reviewed the progress made by the ministry, institutions, and enterprises in executing sector development plans, Lao National Radio reported on Tuesday.
During the session, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone outlined the future directions for the energy and mining sectors from 2026 to 2030, emphasizing their role in socio-economic development.
Sonexay urged the ministry to set a goal for these sectors to contribute 25 percent of the country's gross domestic product by 2030, with an annual growth target of 10 percent to 12 percent.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of enforcing laws and regulations effectively, especially to address the national financial crisis.
He called for promoting sustainable energy development, focusing on resource protection, expanding the electricity transmission system, and balancing domestic needs with export potential. Enditem
