ADDIS ABABA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh has appointed Abdoulkader Houssein Omar as the country's new minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation.
Following his appointment, Omar will succeed Djibouti's long-serving former foreign minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, who now serves as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Djibouti President's Office disclosed in a statement late Tuesday.
Omar, a former ambassador to Kuwait, will also serve as the Red Sea nation's government spokesperson in his new role, according to the presidential decree.
Omar met with Guelleh to receive directions on the country's diplomatic and socio-economic development priorities.
Guelleh also emphasized the promotion of peace, regional stability, and African economic integration as the country's key priorities, the statement added. Enditem
