ISLAMABAD, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan has dispatched 70 tons of emergency relief aid to Myanmar to support victims of the catastrophic earthquake that struck the country recently, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The relief mission, coordinated by the NDMA, involves two chartered flights carrying essential supplies to Yangon, said the statement.

The first air cargo flight, a Boeing 757 loaded with 35 tons of humanitarian goods, departed from the Islamabad International Airport, the NDMA added.

The relief supplies include 565 tents, 210 tarpaulins, 2,000 blankets, one ton of ready-to-eat food, half a ton of medicines, and 10 water purification modules.

A second consignment of 35 tons is also scheduled for dispatch, the NDMA said, adding that it will continue its dedication to providing prompt and effective assistance to those in need.

The death toll from last Friday's 7.9-magnitude quake in Myanmar has risen to 3,003, with 4,515 others injured and 351 missing, according to Myanmar's official media on Wednesday. Enditem
