YANGON, April 3 (Xinhua) -- As of April 2, the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday has caused widespread destruction, damaging homes, offices, schools, religious sites, hospitals, and farmland, state-run daily Myanma Alinn reported Thursday.
A total of 21,783 houses, 805 office buildings, 115 staff housing units, 1,041 school buildings, 921 monastery and nun residences, 1,690 pagodas, 312 other religious structures, 48 hospitals and clinics, and 45 acres of crops have been affected, it said.
Myanmar's government will allocate 500 billion kyats (about 238.09 million U.S. dollars) for earthquake relief and rehabilitation efforts, according to the country's State Administration Council. Enditem
