WINDHOEK, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) on Thursday announced the removal of all previous restrictions placed on the Namibia National Paralympic Committee (NNPC) and the Namibia Boxing Federation (NBF), signaling a renewed focus on sports development within the country.

NSC Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya announced this at a press conference held in Windhoek, highlighting the commission's commitment to improved governance and athlete support.

"This decision enables these organizations to access critical funding for sports development initiatives," he said, emphasizing the importance of unity among committees to ensure that athletes' needs remain at the forefront of their efforts.

In addressing leadership matters within the NBF, Mwiya highlighted that the terms of office for President Jeremia Ndjembo and Executive Member Lysias Hangula will conclude on February 27, 2026, after serving for a decade.

"This aligns with the Namibia Sports Act No. 12 of 2003, which limits executive committee terms to a maximum of ten years," he said, urging a seamless transition in leadership to maintain operational continuity within the federation.

Meanwhile, the NNPC is set for a leadership overhaul. Interim Chairperson Daniel Trump announced plans for a Special Elective Annual General Meeting within three months to elect a new executive committee.

Mwiya reaffirmed NCS's dedication to cultivating a collaborative environment among federations to ensure Namibian athletes receive optimal support and opportunities for growth. Enditem
