ISTANBUL, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Nine migrants were killed and one other went missing on Thursday when a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Canakkale province in northwestern Türkiye, local authorities announced.
According to the statement of the Canakkale Governor's Office, the authorities were alerted to the sinking of the rubber boat near the Ayvacik district at 6:14 a.m. local time (03:16 GMT).
In response, three Coast Guard boats and a helicopter were immediately dispatched to the scene, the office added.
The teams rescued 25 migrants and recovered nine bodies from the sea, while search efforts to find one missing migrant are ongoing, involving a team of 82 people, including divers.
According to the latest statistics published on the Coast Guard Command's website, 13 migrants have died in Türkiye's waters, and 4,880 migrants were intercepted this year. 101 people who had engaged in human trafficking were arrested. Enditem
