Council of East and Central African Football Associations to hold seven tournaments in 2025

KAMPALA, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) will organize seven tournaments in the 2025 calendar.

Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director, told Xinhua on Thursday that seven competitions that will be staged in different countries in the East and Central Africa area.

He explained that members at the CECAFA Ordinary Assembly that sat in Juba, South Sudan in January 2025 had approved those tournaments for the 2025 calendar.

Mossi made it clear that for the first time the CECAFA Zone will stage the CECAFA Beach Soccer competition in Kenya in June. "This is a very good development because this will give our teams a platform to compete in beach soccer at a regional level," added Mossi.

He also revealed that the zone will stage the CECAFA Senior Men's Challenge Cup that will take place in July as a pre-testing tournament before the zone hosts the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

Kenya will host the zonal qualifiers of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women's Champions League in Addis Ababa in September.

Mossi also highlighted that the zone will hold the Dar Port Kagame Cup to in Tanzania. The Dar Port Kagame Cup is a club competition that is used to prepare teams in the zone ahead of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

He mentioned that the Ethiopia Football Federation has already penciled out to host the Zonal U-17 boys qualifiers. The zone will also stage the zonal qualifiers for the CAF African Schools Football Championship qualifiers, and the CECAFA Women's Challenge Cup.

Mossi pointed out that although there are several competitions taking place in the African Continent and others organized by the world Football governing body FIFA, CECAFA is determined to make sure that all the seven competitions are held in the 2025 calendar. Enditem
