CARACAS, April 4 (Xinhua) -- A charter flight carrying 208 Venezuelan migrants deported from the United States arrived Friday at Maiquetia International Airport, outside Caracas, Venezuelan authorities confirmed.
The group was received by Venezuela's Transport Minister and head of state-run airline Conviasa, Ramon Velasquez Araguayan, who said the returnees were welcomed under the same protocol as previous flights.
"This begins the process through our security agencies and the structure of the Return to the Homeland Plan," Velasquez Araguayan said, referring to the government's migrant repatriation program.
According to officials, the group included 176 men, 30 women, and two children. The flight was operated by U.S.-based Eastern Airlines.
The arrival follows an uptick in deportation flights from the U.S. this week. Some Venezuelan migrants were transferred via Honduras or Mexico, while others were flown directly from U.S. territory.
On Thursday, two separate flights returned a total of 511 Venezuelan nationals, one carrying 313 passengers and the other 198. Enditem
