RIO DE JANEIRO, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Botafogo has completed the signing of Uruguayan forward Gonzalo Mastriani on loan from Brazilian rival Athletico Paranaense, the Rio de Janeiro-based club said on Friday.

The deal ties the 31-year-old to Botafogo until December and includes a purchase option, should all parties agree.

"I'm grateful for this opportunity," Mastriani told reporters. "I'm very happy to be here. Botafogo is a unique opportunity for my family. I didn't have to give it much thought."

"I hope it's a happy period for me and the team, and that we can celebrate a lot of titles," he added.

Mastriani, who is contracted to Paranaense until December 2026, scored 16 goals in 54 matches across all competitions after joining the Curitiba club from America Mineiro in January 2024.

Botafogo, the reigning Brazilian and South American champion, began its 2025 Brazilian Serie A campaign with a goalless draw at Palmeiras last Sunday. Enditem
