BUENOS AIRES, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Ezequiel Cerutti struck late as San Lorenzo showed its title credentials with a 1-0 victory at San Martin in Argentina's Primera Division on Friday.
Veteran forward Cerutti broke the deadlock by pouncing on a loose ball and sending a powerful first-time effort into the far corner 21 minutes from time.
The result leaves the Buenos Aires club third in the 15-team Group B standings with 22 points from 12 outings, two points behind leader Independiente, which has a game in hand.
San Martin is last in the group with just one victory so far this campaign.
"It was an important goal because it gave us the victory," Cerutti told reporters after the match. "We know there's a long way to go [in the title race] but we'll fight until the end."
In Friday's only other Primera Division fixture, a first-half strike from Nicolas Fernandez handed Belgrano a 1-0 win at Estudiantes. Enditem
