KABUL, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have apprehended nine people on the charge of illegal drug smuggling and sales and uncovered a quantity of illicit drugs in three provinces, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Saturday.
The suspects were arrested during routine counter-narcotic operations launched by security personnel on the outskirts of eastern Khost, Parwan and western Herat provinces, the statement added.
A quantity of illegal drugs, including methamphetamine, heroin, opium, hashish and stimulant tablets, has been discovered from the suspects during the operations, it said.
The Afghan interim government has outlawed poppy cultivation, drug production, and trafficking, committing to combat the drug issue until Afghanistan, previously known for its poppy production, is transformed into a drug-free country. Enditem
