KABUL, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan interim government's National Statistics and Information Authority announced Monday that airports and border ports had processed over 34,000 inbound and outbound trips of foreign nationals in Afghanistan during the Persian calendar year of 1403.

Among them, 18,486, including 598 women, made inbound trips, while 15,565, including 382 women made outbound trips in the cited period, the authority posted on its social media platform account X.

Popular destinations for the travelers were Herat, Nimroz, Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Faryab, and Balkh border crossing points, as well as Kabul, Kandahar and Herat airports, it said.

Since the Afghan interim government assumed power in August 2021 and a relatively stable and secure atmosphere returned, the tourism industry in the poverty-stricken country is flourishing, driven by its rich cultural heritage and natural landscapes.

The Persian calendar year of 1403 started on March 20, 2024, and ended on March 20, 2025. Enditem
