SOFIA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on Monday urged institutions, research bodies, and businesses to intensify efforts to attract high-tech investment in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking at a roundtable discussion, Radev emphasized that a global race is underway to build infrastructure and ecosystems for AI development, posing critical questions about Bulgaria's role and ambition in this fast-evolving sector.
He noted that the next two years will be crucial for Bulgaria's positioning in the AI landscape.
Radev highlighted several national advantages for attracting AI investment, including a stable energy system, favorable terrain, access to water resources, and strategic geographic location. He also stressed the importance of the education system in cultivating skilled human capital.
However, he warned that despite having the right conditions, Bulgaria faces a major hurdle: its slow-moving bureaucracy.
"We're dealing with two very different business mindsets," Radev said. "This is the core issue, and it can only be resolved through strong ambition, political will, and a shared consensus among all stakeholders." Enditem
