ISTANBUL, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police here on Tuesday detained 20 suspects over their suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) during an ongoing operation, authorities announced.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the operation was launched after it was believed that 32 suspects might carry out actions against Türkiye.
During searches at the suspects' addresses, police seized an unlicensed handgun, cartridges, a large sum of cash in both foreign and local currencies, as well as various digital materials, the office said.
The 20 suspects were taken to the police station for further processing.
Police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining 12 suspects, who have all been identified as "foreign terrorists" by prosecutors, the office said.
The nationalities of the suspects have not been disclosed.
Türkiye, which designated IS as a terrorist organization in 2013, has faced multiple attacks by the group in recent years. In response, Turkish security forces have intensified counter-terrorism operations domestically and abroad, targeting suspected members and supporters. Enditem
