PANAMA CITY, April 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people were killed after the roof of a nightclub collapsed in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, local media reported Tuesday.
More than 100 people were injured and transported to hospitals, said Juan Manuel Mendez, director of the country's Emergency Operations Center (COE).
"We believe many are still alive under the rubble," Mendez told reporters. "Authorities will not rest until every person is accounted for."
Dominican President Luis Abinader expressed condolences over the incident on social media, saying he had been monitoring the situation closely.
"All emergency services have responded and are working tirelessly on the rescue," Abinader said. "Our prayers are with the affected families."
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the collapse. Enditem
