RIO DE JANEIRO, April 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and 36 others injured early Tuesday when a passenger bus overturned in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, authorities said.

The accident occurred overnight on highway MG-223 between the towns of Araguari and Tupaciguara in the region known as the "Triangulo Mineiro."

According to the fire department, the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle, which then overturned.

The bus was traveling from Anapolis in the central state of Goias to Sao Paulo.

Among the 49 passengers onboard were two children, aged two and four, both of whom were among the fatalities. Five of the injured remain in serious condition, officials said.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. Enditem
