VIENNA, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Austria's trade value with the European Union (EU) in January 2025 were around four times higher compared to January 1995 when the country joined EU, according to a press release on Tuesday.

Compared to the month of accession, the import value for trade with the EU was 276.8 percent higher, while the export value rose 346.9 percent in January 2025, said Statistics Austria.

"With a share of around two-thirds, Austria conducts most of its international trade with member states of the European Union," said Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.

In January 2025, the value of exports of goods decreased by 1.7 percent year on year to 15.8 billion euros (17.38 billion U.S. dollars), according to preliminary results by Statistics Austria. Meanwhile, imports of goods increased by 1.5 percent to 15.49 billion euros compared to January 2024.

The four most important product groups in Austria's international trade -- machinery and vehicles, processed goods, chemical products and other manufactured goods -- together showed a decrease of 3.6 percent to 13.09 billion euros on the export side, with the highest absolute declines in exports observed for machinery and vehicles.

In terms of imports, absolute increases were seen in other manufactured goods and processed goods. Machinery and vehicles, however, still recorded absolute declines. (1 euro = 1.1 U.S. dollar) Enditem
