FRANKFURT, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark DAX index in Germany on Wednesday dropped by 3 percent as market turmoil triggered by U.S. tariff policies lingers on.

The DAX index closed at 19,670.88 points, ending a two-day rebound. Pharmaceutical stocks suffered heavy losses, down by nearly 5 percent across the board.

Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA slipped by 4.98 percent, Merck KGaA 4.53 percent, Fresenius Medical Care AG 4.49 percent and Bayer AG 4.4 percent.

The DAX index started its bullish trend at around 12,000 points in September 2022 and reached a record-breaking 20,000 points on December 3 last year. On March 18, the stock market barometer reached a new high of 23,476.01 points.
